Customer Q&A

What microphones does the Rodywei RO08 work with?

The Rodywei RO08 works great with most dynamic and passive ribbon microphones, and it also supports condenser mics. You can even use it with instruments, though the performance isn’t as strong as the RO04 due to the input impedance design.

How do I use the Rodywei RO08?

Simply connect the RO08 between your microphone and your mixer or audio interface using XLR cables (or an XLR to TRS cable). Start with your gain turned down, then slowly turn it up until you find your ideal level.

Who is the Rodywei RO08 for?

Perfect for beginners on a budget who still want clean, professional-quality sound!

You Have Lots to Gain by Purchasing These

This review is about the Rodywell Microphone Preamp with 48V Phantom Power.
Let's be real here - if you want to talk about S/N ratio and the best input designs, then look elsewhere. While quite adequate for most uses, this box will not win the AES award for best design.
But it can turn an extra high-level console input into a microphone channel.
I used the little box to allow our Allen & Heath desk local RCA jacks to accept two nat-sound/crowd mics at the balcony position at church. The noise is certainly low enough and the phantom power strong enough to work great with two condenser microphones. There are no pads, phase flippers or low cutters. Just pure decent amplification. The front panel red LED is a bit much so consider mounting away from line-of-sight.
These problem solvers do not sound bad and are great for general purpose microphone inputs. Recommended!

Powerful. Low Noise. With Phantom Power. Great Buy.

I have microphones requiring phantom power mounted on a soffit shelf on the wall that run into this unit. The output of this runs into a wireless audio bridge to a recording system. A fantastic combination; this unit delivers the gain with low noise to allow the signal to be used by line-level equipment. Works great; installed, and not looking back.

Bought this to replace a Golden Age Pre-73 MKII

I have a Golden Age Pre-73 MKII that's been having issues, which is why I bought this. I don't have a big budget, so I took a chance.

I'll cut right to the chase. I like it a lot. To my ears, it sounds fairly transparent and quiet overall. I'm using an SM57 and for my use case it works well. I needed separate input and output channels, which this has, and that allows me to send each mic to its own signal chain. Additionally, the unit has two 1/4" instrument inputs on the front, which lets you add two additional mics/instruments. While I don't have a use for that right now, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The metal case feels pretty rugged, and the knobs feel fairly sturdy, as well. For its price, I'd give it a thumbs up.

Does what it says!

I've got a Fractal Axe Fx - it's got a USB interface built in with plenty of ins/outs, but no built in mic preamps. So I searched hard for an affordable mic pre with a couple channels (for stereo micing) and lots of gain. That's apparently a surprisingly niche thing. I kept coming across this on Amazon as one of the few products that fit the bill at least on paper, but hesitated for awhile since the brand is pretty unknown. Anyways, finally pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did! Mic sounds great through my fractal now and my credit card is happy that I didn't have to go for anything more spendy than this

Very happy with this, may buy another one.

I bought this in order make use of one of the stereo input channels on our mixer for capturing the room with a pair of small diaphragm condenser mics. They need phantom power and gain, neither of which the stereo channel on the mixer is able to provide. The Rodyweil works exactly as I had hoped. The build quality is solid. The sound quality is good; the preamps give clean sound unless you crank the gain all the way up. I'm happy with this purchase
